What is an unvented hot water cylinder?
An unvented hot water cylinder stores hot water under mains pressure, providing strong hot water flow to your taps and showers without the need for a cold water storage tank in the loft.
Do I need a G3 qualified engineer?
Yes. The installation and many repairs to unvented hot water cylinders should only be carried out by someone with the appropriate G3 qualification and competence.
Why is water dripping through the tundish?
A dripping tundish is usually a sign that your unvented hot water cylinder has developed a fault. Common causes include loss of charge in the expansion vessel, loss of the internal air gap (where fitted), a faulty multivalve, a faulty Temperature & Pressure (T&P) relief valve, or excessive incoming mains water pressure. The cause should always be investigated rather than ignored, as the tundish is part of the cylinder's safety system.
My hot water pressure has dropped. What could be causing it?
Reduced hot water pressure can have several causes, including a faulty multivalve, blocked strainers, expansion vessel problems or another fault within the system. I'll carry out the appropriate checks to identify the cause before recommending any repairs.
Can you recharge a Megaflo air gap?
Yes. Certain unvented cylinders, including some Megaflo models, use an internal air gap to allow for water expansion instead of an external expansion vessel. Over time, this air gap can be lost, which may cause water to discharge through the tundish. Where applicable, I can restore the internal air gap using the manufacturer's recommended procedure as part of diagnosing and repairing the system.
Can you replace an expansion vessel?
